Blue wool coat made in England and sold by John Doyle Bishop, 1951

This coat was made in England by the design house Lachasse London. The layered back to the coat mimics the layered capes on the back of men’s greatcoats in the early 19th century. It was sold in Seattle by retailer John Doyle Bishop (1913-1980). Bishop operated a high-end women’s clothing store from 1950 until his death in 1980. He sourced designer garments from the United States and Europe and provided personalized fashion advice for his devoted clients.
